GAME (Goals, Actions, Metrics, Experiments) is a framework for developing and tracking product initiatives.

Components

  • Goals: Define objectives
  • Actions: Plan steps to achieve goals
  • Metrics: Determine success measures
  • Experiments: Test hypotheses
A hypothetical setup experiment states a goal and hypothesis, changes one step, randomly assigns eligible users to current or revised setup, and compares predefined completion and error measures with uncertainty.
Conceptual experiment plan, not a study result. This applies the note’s GAME labels to controlled-experiment principles; the cited research does not introduce the GAME acronym. Original diagram based on Kohavi and colleagues, BMC Medicine, Online randomized controlled experiments at scale: lessons and extensions to medicine.

Usage

Used for improving product metrics and tracking initiative success. Provides a systematic approach to hypothesis-driven development.

Examples and Applications

  • Feature Development: Test new features with clear metrics
  • Growth Initiatives: Track experiments for user acquisition
  • Performance Optimization: Measure impact of improvements
